Marjorie Davis Obituary


Marjorie B. Davis VIRGINIA BEACH - Marjorie Bateman Davis died Nov. 25, 2008 in her home. Mrs. Davis, widow of Ashton W. Davis Jr., was a native of Creswell, N.C. She was the daughter of the late Eugenia Comer Bateman and William Wiley Bateman. She was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth Bateman Moore; and her brothers, William Wells Bateman and Robert Elliot Bateman. Mrs. Davis was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She was a legal secretary, taught at Churchland High School and worked at the General Assembly of Virginia. For seven years, she was an active member of the Portsmouth Service League. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Virginia Beach. Survivors include three children, Ashton Wigfall Davis III of Norfolk, Constance Davis Firoved of Moyock, N.C., and William Quitman Davis of Virginia Beach; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Aaron Bateman of Richmond; cousin, Elizabeth Hutson Turnburke of Wilmington, N.C.; and six nieces, Valerie Lynn Moore of Dallas, Mary Beth Moore Huber of Thomasville, Ga., Patricia Moore Atkinson of Newnan, Ga., Eugenia Moore Parker of Sparks, Nev., Nanci Elliot Bateman of Albany, N.Y. and Lisa Bateman Coe of New York City and their families. A graveside service will be conducted by Dr. Robert Pipkin at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk today at 11 a.m. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church, 401 35th St., Virginia Beach, VA 23451 or a charity of your choice.

M and Ashton made growing up in Woodbine the best place ever. I spent many days in the Davis house. I always smile(ok laugh) when I look back on those days. On behalf of the entire Smith Family,(Jimmy, Laurey,Jim, and Douglas, our thoughts and prayers are with Davey, Connie, and Billy.
