Vance Apple Obituary


Vance W. Apple VIRGINIA BEACH - Vance Apple, our beloved husband, father and friend, passed away Nov. 26, 2008. Mr. Apple was born to the late Charles M. Apple and Bertha A. Apple in Miltonvale, Kan. Vance proudly enlisted in the U.S. Navy after high school and served for 20 years including World War II. He retired as a chief petty officer. He worked as a mail carrier for the following 21 years in the city of Virginia Beach. For many years, Mr. Apple decorated his yard extensively at Christmas, dressing up as Santa Claus and handing out candy canes to drive-by visitors. Vance is survived by his wife, Gladys Apple of Virginia Beach; daughter, Janie Murrell and husband Bob of Suffolk; daughter, Kathleen Rose and husband Tom of Staunton, Va.; stepson, Dick Brinkley and wife Dot of Waldorf, Md.; Tom Brinkley and wife Jan of Virginia Beach; sister, Faye Frybarger of Aurora, Kan.; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Wonderful memories of "G.G." and "Papa" will be treasured. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, P.O. Box 2156, Norfolk, VA 23501. You may offer condolences at www.mem.com.
