Betty Durst Obituary


Betty Harmon Durst DURHAM - Betty Harmon Durst, 71, died Nov. 29, 2008, in Duke Medical Center after a lengthy battle with cancer. Betty was born in Norfolk, the daughter of A.J. Harmon Sr. and Iva Mae Harmon. She grew up in Raleigh, N.C., and later moved to Durham with her late husband B.E. "Buddy" Durst Jr. Betty was co-owner of Millenium Auto Group with her son David "Sport" Durst. Betty is survived by her son, David E. Durst and her daughter Elizabeth Durst McDonald; three grandchildren, William Hunter, David Cameron and Morgan Elizabeth Durst; two brothers, A.J. "Sonny" Harmon, Jr. and wife Bonnie, and Richard "Dicky" Gregory Harmon and wife Debbie; two nephews, Brad Harmon and wife Tyra, Christopher Harmon; and one niece, Julie Harmon Tallitsch and husband Bill. Betty will live on in our hearts forever. The funeral will be officiated by Dr. David J. Hailey and held in Hayes Barton Baptist Church, 1800 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, Tuesday at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary's St., Raleigh, from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
