Ronda Stein Obituary

Ronda Gelb Stein NORFOLK - Ronda Gelb Stein passed away Nov. 30, 2008. She is at peace. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Melvin and Evelyn Gelb (New York City); sister, Renee Roth (Bayshore, N.Y.); daughter, Andra Stein (Norfolk); son and daughter-in-law, Stuart and Joy Stein; two adorable grandchildren, Jennifer and Stacey Stein (Potomac, Md.); as well as a loving and extended family, including brothers-in-law, Jerry Stein (Norfolk) and Nathan Zipperman (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.); sister-in-law, Katherine Kapler (Palm Desert, Calif.); and nieces and nephews around the country. Ronnie moved to Norfolk from Brooklyn, N.Y., to marry the love of her life, Herbert Stein, in 1956. She fell in love with the community, and the community fell in love with her. Ronnie raised a loving family, and supported Herbert in building the Stein family business. Ronnie will always be remembered as a kind and caring person. She never had a bad thing to say about anyone and was always supportive and caring for others. Ronnie always put others first. Of course, none of that was true at the Mah Jong table, where she ruled for years. Her smile would light up the sky on even the darkest days. It is said some things are too good to be true, but she really was. The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., 1501 Colonial Ave., Norfolk, and led by Rabbi Arthur Ruberg and Cantor Gordon Piltch. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Congregation Beth El, 422 Shirley Ave., Norfolk, VA 23517.
