Nellye Baker Obituary


Nellye Matthews Baker WILLIAMSBURG - Nellye Matthews "Nell" Baker, 72, a resident of Williamsburg since 1984, died Nov. 28, 2008. She was a former switchboard operator for DePaul Hospital in Norfolk and for AT&T before becoming a historical interpreter for Colonial Williamsburg in 1986. She was a member of St. Bede Catholic Church. She is survived by her three children, Katherine E. Baker of Williamsburg, Douglas J. Baker and wife Alma of Maryland and Suzanne B. Starbuck and husband Gary of Williamsburg; six grandchildren, Matthew, Jonathan, Katherine, Christopher, Jamie and Johnny; and numerous beloved friends. A memorial Mass will be held at St. Bede Catholic Church on Ironbound Road, Thursday, at 11 a.m. Inurnment will be private at a later date. The family will receive friends Wednesday at 7 p.m. in The William and Mary Alumni House. Online condolences may be registered at bucktroutfuneralhome.net. Bucktrout of Williamsburg is in charge of the arrangements.
