Lauren Vergara Obituary
Lauren Traci Vergara CHESAPEAKE - Lauren Traci Vergara, a brilliant young woman, of the 1400 block of Monarch Reach, passed away at the youthful age of 16, Dec. 2, 2008. She was born in Agana, Guam and lived in Chesapeake for the past five years. She was the daughter of Noel and Gwen Velarde Vergara. Lauren previously attended Crestwood Elementary and Intermediate schools and currently attended Great Bridge High School where she was in the 11th grade. She was a performing member of the Great Bridge Marching Wildcats, the National Honor Society as well as many different academic clubs. Her smile filled every classroom with light because every teacher as well as many students loved her. She is survived by her parents of Chesapeake; her paternal grandparents, Alfredo and Julieta Vergara and maternal grandmother, Eufracia Velarde all of the Philippines; her older brother, Paolo; and her younger sister, Liezl; and many aunts and uncles. She was a beautiful daughter, a loving sister and a caring friend. The Rev. Father Romeo Jazmin will officiate at the funeral Mass Monday, Dec. 8, at 2 p.m. in Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Philippines. A Christian wake will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday in the Chesapeake chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts.; the family will remain in the funeral home to receive friends until 9 p.m. Lauren was and always will be forever remembered in the hearts of those blessed with the memory of her presence and her friendship. Memorial contributions may be sent in Lauren's name to the Great Bridge High School Marching Wildcats Band Parents Association, 301 W. Hanbury Road, Chesapeake, VA 23322. I knew her back when I was in Elementary School, in awe wishing I could be as good has her. Every December, I still think what great things she could have done and what joys she could have brought the world. She will never be forgotten.

Lauren was such a part of everone's friend group and when she passed, I know a little piece of all of us went with her.
Even knowing fully well that she is gone, I can't help but think that I hear her laughing or see her smile.
Maybe she took a little more of me than she thought she would.

I dont really know what to say. Lauren has been my friend for so long. Since i was 7. This past week all ive been thinking about was all the times we'd spent together in iwakuni, and when she visited me here in florida. But i know that she is in a much better place now. I did not know Lauren but my niece Hannah went to school with her. Hannah's heart as well as mine is hurting for your family. From all the beautiful tributes and expressions of sympathy left on Lauren's behalf I feel as if I have been given a gift -- a glimpse into her life. Please know that I am praying for you. My two eldest daughters are attending the Christian Wake tonight to support Hannah and to pray for those who may not know this powerful verse from the Holy Scripture, "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort who comforts us in all our afflictions so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God." Even though we have not seen Lauren growing up, her memories during her childhood back in Iwakuni will forever be in our mind. The picture you send us was so beautiful, seeing her for the first time as a young lady is very rewarding. We are going to miss her so much. I was Lauren’s Trig teacher at Great Bridge High School. I so enjoyed teaching that particular group of students, for they supported one another in a manner, which I have not witnessed before or since. Lauren was an academic leader, patient group partner, and genuinely kind friend to her classmates. She visited my classroom, on a weekly basis this school year, just to talk and share her warm smile. Lauren made a difference in my life, as well as the lives of those fortunate enough to know her at Great Bridge High School.
Where there is faith, there is hope and where there is hope, there is everything.

Lauren was one of the sweetest girls I had the pleasure of getting to know when I met her in marching band my senior year. I could see that she was good-natured and well-liked. Her smile always brightened up practices for me.

My son David Sanchez and Lauren have been friends since middle school, not to mention neighbors for the past 6 years. Memories David will always cherish. We are so sorry for your recent loss. Lauren was truely a beautiful girl who was friendly to everyone. She became a friend to Meghan when we first moved into the neighborhood and helped Meghan become acquainted with the new school and friends.
