Algie Mathias Obituary


Algie Riddick Mathias NORFOLK - Algie Riddick Mathias, 80, of the 2400 block of Bruce St., went to be with the Lord Dec. 2, 2008. A native of Corapeake, N.C., he was the son of the late Algie Robert and Florence Brinkley Mathias and the husband of Cecile Dunkley Mathias. A Navy veteran, he was a member of Calvary Temple, Norfolk. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Brenda Madden and her husband Robert of Elizabeth City and Deborah Krachenfels and her husband Eugene of Wixon, Mich.; three sons, Dwane Mathias and his wife Georgia of Chritsman, Ill., Timothy Mathias of Norfolk and Thomas Mathias and wife Lottie of Suffolk; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Kathleen Wiggins of Hertford, N.C., Naomi Lazzaro and her husband Joseph and Nancy Bunch and her husband Kenneth, all of Suffolk; one brother, Bobby Mathias and his wife Bernice of Corapeake; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Calvary Temple with Dr. Lamar Sentell and Pastor Chris Amos officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Parkers Methodist Church Cemetery, Corapeake. The family will receive friends in Graham Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel, Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 500 Plume St. East, Suite 110, Norfolk, VA 23510.
