Mary Farrar Obituary


Mary Louise Farrar NEWPORT NEWS - Mary Louise Farrar, 86, passed away Dec. 3, 2008. She was a native of Grand Rapids, Mich., and had been a resident of Newport News for 42 years. Mrs. Farrar was a member of Hidenwood Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the adult choir. She was also a member of the Peninsula Garden Club and the James River Golf Association. She graduated from Northwestern University where she was a member of the Pi Phi Sorority. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Estes Farrar Jr. and her son, Stephen E. Farrar. Mrs. Farrar leaves behind to cherish her memory two daughters, Marcia Fulford of Newport News and Susan L. Powell and husband Ronald of Suffolk; sister, Betty Pettinga of Grand Rapids; and grandson, Bill Garrett of Norfolk. The family will receive friends today from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Peninsula Funeral Home. A private family graveside will be held in Peninsula Memorial Park. Contributions may be made in Mrs. Farrar's memory to the Alzheimer's Association, Southeastern Virginia Chapter, 6350 Center Drive, Suite 102, Norfolk, VA 23502.
