Emma Rhodes Obituary


Emma Lee Rhodes PORTSMOUTH - Emma Lee Rhodes, 85, was called home to rest Dec. 2, 2008. She was born in Norfolk to the late Anderson and Eunice Jones. Mrs. Rhodes was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and retired from Sears Roebuck and Co. She was a caring and loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend who will greatly be missed. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Milford Rhodes Sr. Mrs. Rhodes is survived by her loving son, the Rev. Milford G. Rhodes Jr.; a sister, Fannie Askew of Philadelphia; three grandchildren, Morgan Rhodes (Ronald Scott), Melani Rhodes and the Rev. Aimee Rhodes, all of Newport News; nine great-grandchildren; a niece, Dr. Jacqueline Peace; a nephew, Lee E. Peace Jr.; lifelong friend, Catherine Mingo; and a host of loving cousins. The family will receive friends at 500 Henderson St., Portsmouth. Public viewing will be held at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, 500 Liberty St., Chesapeake, Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. A funeral will be held in First Baptist Church, Berkley, at 11 a.m. Monday. Interment to follow in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. We invite you to send a condolence message to the family's guestbook at www.pretlowandsons.com.

It was a honor and joy to know Sis. Emma.I enjoyed the sunday morning talks we had when every she came to church.I will miss her but my heart rejoice in knowing she is going home to be with our father. To the family hold on to your memories and contiue to keep Christ first in your life and you will see her again. BE BLESSED!!!!
