Lennie Luke Obituary


Lennie W. Luke Jr. PORTSMOUTH - Lennie W. Luke Jr., 80, of Shamrock Drive, passed away Dec. 4, 2008, in Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center. Born in Portsmouth, he was the son of the late Lennie W. Luke Sr. and Maggie Lee Richardson Luke. He was predeceased by his brother, William Joseph Luke and sisters, Helen V. Luke Keefer and Myrtle Luke Parker. Lennie retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and was the former owner of Seward's Auto Service. He was a former junior deacon at Western Branch Baptist Church and a member of the Welfare Bible Class. Lennie signed with the Boston Red Sox organization after graduation from high school and loved sports all of his life, particularly golf in his later years. In high school, he was a star athlete lettering in baseball, basketball and track. He served in the Army during the Korean conflict. Lennie is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty J. Seward Luke; daughter, Cheryl J. Frahm and husband Richard; son, Lennie B. Luke; granddaughter, Christina B. Frahm; and brother, Robert A. Luke. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Olive Branch Cemetery. Dr. Walter Black will officiate. The family will receive friends in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, Sunday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, make contributions to the American Heart Association. www.SturtevantFuneralHome.com.
