Thomas Griffin Obituary


Thomas W. Griffin Jr. LEWISTON-WOODVILLE - Thomas W. Griffin Jr. died Dec. 7, 2008, in the Brian Center in Windsor, N.C. He was born in Lewiston-Woodville in Bertie County, North Carolina, Jan. 20, 1918, to Thomas Whitmel Griffin and Margaret McKenzie Urquhart Griffin. After graduating in 1937 from Virginia Episcopal School, Lynchburg, Va., and attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he returned home to help manage the family farms and Woodville Supply Co. He served on numerous county agricultural boards. He was a lifelong member of Grace Episcopal Church in Woodville, serving as a senior warden of the Vestry. Thomas Griffin is survived by his sister, Margaret U. Griffin, of the home, numerous cousins and dedicated caregivers. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Grace Episcopal Church Churchyard, Lewiston-Woodville, with the Rev. Joe Cooper officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the home of John and Claudia Griffin. If desired, memorials may be made to the Churchyard Fund of Grace Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 715, Lewiston-Woodville, NC 27849 or to the Lewiston-Woodville Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 340, Lewiston-Woodville, NC 27849. Online condolences may be sent to www.walkerfh.net. Walker Funeral Home of Windsor is serving the Griffin family.
