Junius Foster Obituary

Junius E. Foster Jr. VIRGINIA BEACH - Junius E. Foster Jr., 86, went home to be with the Lord Dec. 4, 2008. He was born in Richmond, Va., in 1922 and was ordained as a Baptist minister in 1946. He graduated from the University of Richmond and attended Crozer Theological Seminary in Chester, Pa. He served as a naval aviator during World War II and was twice decorated for meritorious service in the South Pacific, where he participated in 10 major engagements from the Marshall Islands to Okinawa. Junie was the beloved pastor of Thalia Lynn Baptist Church in Virginia Beach where he served for 20 years until his retirement in 1987. Prior to that he was the pastor of Hull's Memorial Baptist Church and Zoan Baptist Church in Spotsylvania County, Virginia and Norview Baptist Church in Norfolk. He also served as pastor of three churches in Florida: First Baptist in Miami, Stetson Baptist in DeLand and First Baptist in New Smyrna Beach. All of these churches were the beneficiaries of Junie's genuine love for people, his amazing energy and his total dedication to the calling of God in his life. Just two months ago, Junie was preceded in death by his wife, Dotti, whom he loved dearly during their 62 years of marriage and joint ministry. He is survived by his four children, Darrell and his wife Helen, Richard, David and his wife Leslie and Lynne. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jennifer Foster Quick and her husband Jim, Matthew Foster and his wife Polly, Christopher Foster and his wife Maura and Adam Foster and his wife Deborah. He enjoyed the special gift of three great-grandchildren, Noah James Quick, Grant William Quick and Kaitlyn Anne Foster. It would be impossible to count the number of people whose lives have been impacted, uplifted and changed because they knew Junie. His wonderful smile and infectious optimism were irresistible. His faith was evident in everything he did. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him, but his influence will continue for a long, long time. A service to celebrate the life and ministry of Junie Foster will be held at Thalia Lynn Baptist Church Saturday, Dec. 27, at 11 a.m.

Rev. Foster baptized my father and I in October, 1952 at Norview Baptist Church. I had the privilege of growing up knowing his wife and have fond memories of Darrell, Dickie, and David sitting in one of the front pews with their mother while their father preached our Sunday sermons. I will always be grateful to have known such a wonderful pastor and to know he has gone on to greater glory and rest. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family.

To All of the Foster Family,
I grew up in the Thalia Lynn Church Family during Junie's years as pastor there. I will never forget his sense of humor, utter committment and above all his constant smile. I know the people's lives he touched will give you as much comfort as he gave so many.

To all the Foster Family: Junius Foster was a beloved and treasured Pastor at Stetson Baptist Church. I think of him and you all often. I adopted a favorite saying from him, "If you get your 'want to's' right, you can do anything you want to". His sermons and example on tithing also left an indelible imprint on my life. He said his practice was to give each family member an envelope with an equal amount to represent the family's income. I could go on and on about how he blessed my life. No Pastor before, or since, rode in his car with a smile on his face. I am very thankful to have know him and you.

Dear Darell, Helen and family. So sorry to hear of your Dad (and Mom) passing away. Your Dad was special in our lives as he performed our wedding ceremony in 1963 at Stetson Baptist, DeLand. Such a loving spirit and infectious smile. He influenced so many lives over the years.
He will be missed.

Our deepest condolances go to all of the Foster Family. Junie was truly a very special man. He loved life and especially loved all the folks at Thalia Lynn. Earl and I were Junie's first Wedding at Thalia Lynn on December 9, 1967. It was the beginning of many Weddings that he performed. Each one of those Weddings were special to Junie. What a wonderful ministry.

I write this with a full heart of deep appreciation and affection for Junie. I am thankful that we shared the platform just last year to mark Thalia Lynn's 50th anniversary. His life and ministry are one of the greatest witnesses this world has ever known. My prayers and sympathies are with his family.
