Richard L. Hall CHESAPEAKE - Richard Lynwood Hall, 65, loving husband of Janice H. Hall, went to be with Jesus Dec. 7, 2008, (Pearl Harbor Day) while in the arms of his beloved son, Richard David Hall. Dick, son of the late Mack and Vera Hall of Mount Airy, N.C., grew up in Carroll County, Virginia. He attended grade school in Mount Airy then went to Virginia Tech as an Air Force ROTC cadet where he met his wife, Janice. Dick and Janice moved to Chesapeake in 1965, accepting a position at Higgerson-Buchanan General Contractors where he proudly worked for 39 years eventually becoming vice president. Dick lived a full life building much of the Tidewater area, including Norfolk Naval Acute Care Facility, Virginia Beach toll road, runways at Norfolk and Atlanta International Airports, just to mention a few! The majority of Dick's life was devoted to giving back to the community. He held close to his heart all military service men and women who served our great country. He served graciously as a Flotilla staff officer for the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 54, an associate member of the United States Marine Corps League Chesapeake Detachment, an honorary deputy sheriff of Chesapeake, a treasurer of the Chesapeake Chamber of Commerce and a deacon/treasurer for Great Bridge Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed fishing, boating, camping and traveling. Travels with his wife and son included trips to Aruba, Cancun, Jamaica, Hawaii and many other beautiful places. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Janice H. Hall; his son, Richard David Hall of Chesapeake and his son's fiancée Laurie Lowe of Palm Harbor, Fla.; his brother, Jack Hall of Winston-Salem, N.C.; niece, Susan Hall of Cape Coral, Fla.; uncle, Silas Asa and Ruby Hall of Mount Airy; and numerous cousins. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. The Rev. Tom Mercer will officiate. Interment will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. A reception will be held immediately after the services in Cedar Lakes Condo Clubhouse, 301 Cedar Lakes Blvd., Chesapeake. The viewing and celebration of his new life with our Lord Jesus Christ will begin Friday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home.
