Delores Cox Obituary


Delores A. Cox PORTSMOUTH - On Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009, Delores A. Cox, 65, transcended from this life into eternity. With her family members and friends at her side, she entered into eternal rest in Howard County General Hospital in Columbia, Md. Delores was born Feb. 7, 1943, to Pauline F. Allen and the late Clarence E. Allen in Portsmouth. She was employed at Portsmouth Social Services for many years where she was known for her tireless, compassionate efforts to help those less fortunate than herself. Delores retired in 1997 due to illness and moved to Washington, D.C., with her husband, Calvin Cox. She later moved to Laurel, Md., where she resided with her husband until her homegoing. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 24 years, Calvin Cox of Laurel; four children, Yolanda Butts (Corey) of Chesapeake, Ernest Elliot (Mary) of Oxon Hill, Md., Pamela Elliot of Temple Hills, Md., and Carmen Beckner (John) of Anthem, Ariz.; mother, Pauline F. Allen of Portsmouth; brothers, William E. Allen (Porsha) of Dover, Del., Ronald T. Allen (Zenobia) of Chesapeake; one sister, Deborah A. Reid (Clifton) of Columbia, Md.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and many other relatives. A funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in Third Baptist Church with the Rev. Joseph A. Fleming officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake. Fisher Funeral Home, 1520 Effingham St., Portsmouth, is handling the arrangements. Viewing will begin today at noon.
