Rosemary Dashiell Obituary

Rosemary A. Dashiell NORFOLK - Rosemary Ashby Dashiell, 83, died Jan. 15, 2009. Born in Norfolk April 10, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Benton Ashby and Blanche Lambert Ashby. She lived in Norfolk until she moved to Westminster Canterbury four years ago. Mrs. Dashiell was married to David Armistead Dashiell Jr. from 1951 until his death in 2003. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ashby Dashiell and her husband John Steely; two sons, David Armistead Dashiell III and Joseph Benton Ashby Dashiell; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Nathaniel Beaman III; and a brother-in-law, Dr. Waverly Berkley Dashiell of Columbus, Ga.; nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Dashiell attended Garrison Williams School (now The Williams School), graduated from St. Catherine's School and Sweet Briar College. She was a lifelong member of Christ and St. Luke's Episcopal Church where she was active in many ministries and served as Altar Guild chair and Flower Guild chair. She believed strongly in her Christian obligation to assist those in need, and acted on this conviction quietly and with generosity throughout her life. She was also active as a member of other civic organizations including The Junior League of Norfolk, of which she was past president, the Westover Garden Club and The Monday Club. Her pleasures included attending the symphony, opera and theater, reading, doing crossword puzzles and spending time with her many friends. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Christ and Saint Luke's Episcopal Church. The family will greet those attending at a reception in Lloyd Hall following the service. Memorial gifts may be made to the Outreach Fund of Christ and St. Luke's Church, 560 W. Olney Road, Norfolk, VA 23507, the Fellowship Fund of Westminster Canterbury 3100 Shore Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23451 or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Mary, David and Joe,
I was sad to learn of your mother's passing today. A flood of warm memories came to mind of your dear mother ever patient and gracious to a bunch of rambunctious boys through our growing up years in West Ghent.
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, The Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God." (2 Cor. 1:3,4)
Warmest regards,

Rev. James R. Reed
Winston-Salem, NC

Mary, David, and Joe:

My heart is heavy to read the news of your mother's death. My memories of her are special and very fond. You have mine and my wife, Bonnie's sympathies and prayers. "Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let Perpetual Light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all faithful departed, through the mercies of God, rest in peace."

Faithfully yours,

+The Rt. Rev. David I. Moshier, D.D., S.T.D.
