William Coltrain Obituary

William H. Coltrain GLOUCESTER - William Hugh "Bill" Coltrain died Jan. 14, 2009, at the age of 69. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Julia Coltrain. Bill devoted his life to family and others. After serving his country in the U.S. Air Force, he returned home and began his career as a professional firefighter for the City of Norfolk, retiring after 37 years in the rank of lieutenant. Relocating to Gloucester in 1998, he spent the next 10 years, enjoying gardening, travel and his many hobbies. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Sandra; children, Michael and Michele; only grandchild, Brandon William; sister, Patricia Davis of Florida; two nieces, four nephews, their families and many good friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either St. Jude's Hospital or the American Cancer Society. A memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach. Condolences may be expressed at altmeyer.com.

We will miss our good friend Bill, who let us into his home and treated us as family. He was our first real "Friend" when we moved to Gloucester. We will always remember him with great fondness.
