Helen Martin Obituary

Helen H. Martin VIRGINIA BEACH - Helen Harris Martin, 68, of the 5500 block of Stewart Drive, passed away Jan. 17, 2009, after a courageous fight against cancer. A native of Norfolk, she was the daughter of the late Grady Lee and Frances Cousins Harris and was an office manager at Power Electric Co. for many years. Helen had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed traveling, scuba diving and karate. She loved spending time with family, playing cards and watching sports. She also had a passion for reading and treasured her beloved dog, Molly. Surviving are her husband, W. Dale Martin; three daughters, Deborah Ann Wass, Cynthia Browne Houck and her husband Timothy and Diana Browne St. John and her husband Gary, all of Virginia Beach; a stepdaughter, Sheila Martin of Marietta, Ga.; two stepsons, Billy D. Martin and his wife Deidre of Virginia Beach and Kenneth Troy Martin of Georgia; six grandchildren, John D. Wass, Brian M. Wass, Morgan Houck, Madison Houck, Joshua St. John and Carter St. John; and one stepgranddaughter, Lauren Martin. A funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Graham Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel, with the Rev. Deborah Clark officiating. Burial will be in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends in the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 4416 Expressway Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23452.
