Lucile Herbertson Obituary
Lucile R. Herbertson NORFOLK - Lucile Rupp Herbertson, 92, of Hyde Park in Norfolk, died Jan. 10, 2009, in a local hospital. She was born July 6, 1916, in St. Cloud, Minn., the oldest of nine children of the late Otto and Florence Rupp. After studying physics in college, she served our country during World War II by working at the FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C. There she met and married a FBI agent, Robert K. Herbertson Sr. After living in Portland, Ore., and Charlotte, N.C., then in Warwick (now Newport News), they eventually settled in Norfolk where they raised their five children. Lucile was a devoted and loving mother who spent most of her life caring for and about her five children, 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She will always be remembered as a lover of nature (a trait she passed on to all of her children), a talented seamstress, an avid reader, an ardent crossword puzzle adherent and a family Scrabble champion. She was also a long-standing, faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church where she regularly attended Mass. Lucile is survived by her daughter, Patricia Yaros (Steven) of Norfolk; daughter, Mary Beth Thompson (Dane) of Biscayne Park, Fla.; son, Robert K. Herbertson Jr. (Carol) of Roanoke, Va.; daughter, Nannette Saunders (Hugh Jr.) of Woodstock; son, Charles D. Herbertson (Mai) of Los Angeles; 13 grandchildren, Celeste Auvil (Michael), Yvette Cahill (Brian), Tammy Thompson (special friend Pat), Dane Thompson, Darren Thompson (special friend Cristina), Kirk, Luke (Laura), Kara and Kim Herbertson, Hugh Saunders III (Julie), Tri (special friend Mai) and Thao Nguyen and Amy Herbertson; and a great-grandson, Robert Cahill. She is also survived by her siblings, Francis (Elaine) Rupp, Joanne McCusker, Martha (Charles) Gaetz, Blanche Matthews, Carol Schmitt, Sheila (Don) Saatzer, Florence (Roger) Schmid, as well as sister-in-law, Betty Rupp. She was predeceased by a brother, Herbert Rupp. Burial, along with a private service for the family, will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Burkeville, Va., where she will be interred next to her husband of more than 50 years. A memorial Mass will be held at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26, in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Norfolk. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements.
