Wayne K. Elliott PORTSMOUTH - Wayne K. Elliott, 45, of the 5000 block of Barberry Lane, known affectionately by his family as "Pop," passed away gently surrounded by family and friends in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital Jan. 12, 2009. He will be remembered most for his enthusiasm for detail and order which was evidenced through his love and care of all things mechanical. He had a genuine love of cars, trucks, boats, aviation and cycling which enabled him to experience life in its truest sense. In fact, he was able to ride his motorcycle one last time just before leaving this earth. Wayne was born in Portsmouth, Oct. 9, 1963, and graduated from Wilson High School. He was employed with Eagle Transport for 20 years where he was regularly awarded for excellence and safety; the most notable was the President's Million Mile Safety Award. He was most recently employed with Quest Transport where he continued to set a great example and enjoyed solid friendships with his colleagues. He was a member of Union Bethel Baptist Church in Chesapeake. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Elliott; three sons, Austin Elliott, Tyrrell and Cameron Nicholson; mother, Zenobia Elliot; sisters, Wanda Hatchett, Wilhemina Elliott, Myra Sawyer (Thomas), Kathy Griffin (John); brothers, Dwight Elliott (Janice), Lloyd Elliott (Mary), Stanley Elliot (Marcella); mother- and father-in-law, Dennis and Queen Esther Nicholson; sister- and brother-in-law, Bernadette Tolson (Todd), Yolanda Nicholson, Gerald Nicholson, Dennis Nicholson III (Obrea); nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. A funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Third Baptist Church, Portsmouth, the Rev. Joe B. Flemins presiding. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake. The body will be in the church at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Viewing will begin today at noon. The family will be at the residence. Fisher Funeral Home, 1520 Effingham St., is in charge.
