Jean Kelley Obituary

Jean Kelley NORFOLK - Jean Kelley, 81, of the 1800 block of Greenleaf Drive, passed peacefully away surrounded by family and friends in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital Jan. 16, 2009. She was born in Norfolk, Oct. 1, 1927, to the late Joseph E. Kelley Sr. and Ruth T. Kelley. She was predeceased by one brother, Joseph E. Kelley Jr. and one sister, Alma Joyner. She was educated in the Norfolk public school system. Jean retired from Chemical Research and Messenger Custodial Services. She was a faithful member of Philadelphia Fellowship Baptist Church and a former member of Mount Lebanon Baptist Church. She was Past Matron of Queen Esther New Thomas Wheaton Chapter No. 2 Order of Eastern Star of Virginia - PHA. She was also a member of Norfolk Redevelopment & Housing Authority Senior Citizens Club and the Oakleaf Forest Civic League. She is survived by eight daughters, Barbara K. Lewis of Chesapeake, Ruth Kelley, Regina Kelley, Gwendolyn K. Harris, Karen Kelley, Cheryl Kelley, Vida Kelley of Norfolk, and Lisa Kelley of Virginia Beach; four sons, Larry Kelley (Marsha) of Newport News, Carlton Kelley (Sabrina) of Raleigh, N.C., Antonio Kelley (Veronica) of Norfolk and Alfrado Kelley of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one sister, Shirley Gibbs of Smithfield, Va.; 26 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. A homegoing service will be held Saturday at noon in Gethsemane Community Fellowship, 1317 E. Brambleton Ave., Norfolk. The Rev. Dr. Ronnie D. Joyner, pastor of Philadelphia Fellowship Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family will be at 916 Workwood Road, Norfolk.
