Annie Murray Obituary

Annie S. Murray PORTSMOUTH - Annie Ruth Sharpless Murray was born to the late Oscar J. and Bertha B. Sharpless in Chinquapin, N.C. She died Jan. 20, 2009. She retired from Wayside Cleaners after after 20 years of dedicated service. On Dec. 20, 1947, she married the man of her life, Walter E. Murray and from that happy union she became the proud mother of Andrea Benne Murray-Overton. She was a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church, Portsmouth. She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Murray; one sister and four brothers. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Walter E. Murray; a loving and devoted daughter and son-in-law, A. Benee Murray Overton (James) of Portsmouth; a granddaughter, Jamie Overton-Garrett (Coleman) of Memphis, Tenn.; a godson, Dominic Davis of Lynchburg; four brothers; two brothers-in-law; two loving and devoted nephews, retired Lt. Cmdr. Gerald Sharpless of Durham, N.C., and Michael "Redd" Davis of Portsmouth. She will be sadly missed by a host of caring nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A funeral will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. in Mount Carmel Baptist Church, Portsmouth. Interment will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in the funeral home Sunday from 4 to 5 p.m. Corprew Funeral Home is in charge.
