Joel Randall Smaltz

Joel R. Smaltz NORFOLK - Joel Randall Smaltz, 69, of the 6100 block of Lyndhurst Ave., passed away Jan. 22, 2009. Born in Mansfield, Ohio, to Mary Helen Smaltz of Ohio and the late Norman M. Smaltz, Joel was retired from Bankers Life as an insurance salesman and a member of Riverside Baptist Church and the Masons. He is survived by his wife, Betty Smaltz; son, Richard Joel Smaltz and wife Rebecca of Suffolk; a daughter, Mary Anndrene Smaltz of Chesterfield, Va.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four daughters by marriage. A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, with the Rev. Frank Leonard officiating. Burial will follow in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
