James West Obituary

James Marshall West MCGAHEYVILLE - James Marshall West, 64, passed away Jan. 25, 2009, in his residence. Mr. West was born Nov. 17, 1944, in Norfolk, and was the son of the late James Coake and Elizabeth Marshall Richards. Prior to his retirement, Jim was active duty for the U.S. Navy for 20 years and then worked for the civil service for 23 years and most recently was a safety manager for Navy training. James was also a member of the Shriners. On Oct. 28, 1972, he married Mary Kay Diggle West who survives. In addition to his wife, Mr. West is survived by one son, James West II and wife Anne of Norfolk; three daughters, Dawn Gonzales of Denton, Texas, Angela Fairchild of Austin, Texas, Kristine Tutkus and husband Michael of Chesapeake; two sisters, Betty Keech of Virginia Beach and Jan Baillie of Chesapeake; and seven grandchildren, Alex Fairchild, Ryan Gonzales, Christopher West, Séamus West, Logan West, Andrew West and Kyla Marie Tutkus. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Hickory United Methodist Church, 2708 Battlefield Blvd., Chesapeake, VA 23322, with the Rev. Tom Mercer officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the RMH Hospice, 235 Cantrell Ave., Harrisonburg, VA 22801.
