Virginia Stokes Obituary

Virginia V. Stokes VIRGINIA BEACH - Virginia Vigilante Stokes, 86, passed to eternal life Jan. 25, 2009, in her home. She was born in Disputanta, Va., and was the widow of Ralph C. Vigilante Sr. and Alton L. Stokes. She was retired from Atlantic Permanent as a loan officer. She is survived by three daughters, Judith V. Loper and husband Jack, Rita V. Sioros of Virginia Beach, Terri V. Post and husband Gene of Glenville, N.Y.; son, Ralph C. Vigilante Jr. of Virginia Beach; seven grandchildren, Janet Robold, Elaine Sioros, Paul Sioros Jr., Jonathan Post, Aaron Post, Adam Vigilante and Kate Veverka; five great-grandchildren; cousin, Jeanne Risque; and her dear friend, Claira. She was predeceased by her sister, Helen Bowden and brother, James Lilley. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she sang in the choir for many years and also enjoyed sewing, upholstering, bowling and traveling. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held today at 2 p.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, is in charge. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or her church. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.

Virginia will always be remembered by the "Honer Girls" as setting an example of a supportive Mom for not only Terri, but all the dancers she met. She never seemed flustered or hurried and diligently produced beautiful costumes along with always offering encouragement to young aspiring dancers. We were blessed to have known her.
