Christine S. Waters PORTSMOUTH - Christine Shearn Waters, 77, of the 400 block of Tazewell St., went home to be with the Lord Jan. 26, 2009. She was born in Murfreesboro, N.C. She was known as "Big Mom." She was a faithful member of New Bethel Baptist Church even through her long-term illness. She leaves to cherish her memory: a devoted and loving husband that was always at her side, Ernest L. Waters Jr., known as "Waterboy"; two daughters, Joycetine Burton (Imn) of Portsmouth and Monica Thomas (Calvin) of Chesapeake; four sons, Ernest L. Waters III, known as "BoBo," (Linda) of West Virginia, Leonard E. Waters of Chesapeake, Keith J. Waters and Lorenzo Waters, known as "Yak," of Portsmouth; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in New Bethel Baptist Church, 4212 Greenwood Drive, Portsmouth. Bishop James M. Whitaker Sr., pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Family and friends will assemble at 407 Tazewell Street. Corprew Funeral Home is in charge.

Miss Christine and my grandmother Hilda Moore have been friends for as long as I can remember. They were more like sisters than friends. My heartfelt condolences go out to the Waters family.
