For several years, I worked with Mrs. Overbey at NSU and we shared many hours together as co-workers at the nursing department. My deepest sympathy goes to the family at this time. I know you will miss your mother and loved one but rest assured that 1)she has left a life-inspiring legacy and 2) to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord; hence, Betty Jean Overbey as one of God's children, lives free of pain, suffering and the troubles of this world. She was loved and appreciated!

To the family,
Mrs. Overbey was one of my teachers at Norfolk State University over 20 years ago. Her dedication and commitment to African American nurses will be missed. She is one of the reasons I am persuing a career as a nursing educator. May God be with you during your time of saddness.

My mother and Ms Overbey were friends also, which led to me being your babysitter one summer when your family lived on Weaver Rd in Hampton, and moved to Big Bethel Rd. My thoughts and prayers are with each of you. You do indeed have a loving Guardian Angel watching over you. I had the opportunity to work with Ms Overbey after I became a nurse; we worked on Pediatrics together for awhile. She was a phenonmenal woman and was a great example to all women. She will truly be missed
