Alda Cote Obituary

Alda N. Cote VIRGINIA BEACH - Alda Nanamaker Cote, 83, passed away Jan. 28, 2009, from complications following a hip fracture and pneumonia. Her career spanned 30 years of service as the parish secretary for Grace Episcopal Church, membership secretary at the YMCA and administrative assistant at Quinnipiac College, all located in Hamden, Conn. Alda retired to Green Tree Villas in Boynton Beach, Fla., where she managed the newsletter and planned many social events for her friends and neighbors in phase 6. During her more than 20 years in Florida, Alda was an active parishioner and church office volunteer at St. Joseph's Episcopal Church. She relocated to Virginia Beach two years ago to be near her two daughters during her battle with Alzheimer's and osteoporosis. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Raymond H. Cote; two daughters, Jill Byrd of Suffolk and Robin Takacs of Virginia Beach; and two grandchildren, Christopher and Joselyn Takacs. She is also survived by two siblings, Doris Chamberlin of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Fred Nanamaker of Orange, Conn., and many friends and extended family. A service of remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Eastern Shore Chapel on Laskin Road in Virginia Beach. Visitation with the family will follow the service. Burial arrangements will be private in New Haven, Conn. Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph's Capital Campaign c/o St. Joseph's Episcopal Church, 3300A South Seacrest Blvd., Boynton Beach, FL 33435-8661.
