Bruce Tyler Sewell VIRGINIA BEACH - Bruce Tyler Sewell, the wife of Carl Harris Sewell, died Jan. 30, 2009. "Brucie" was the daughter of Betty and Gordon Tyler of Virginia Beach. She was born in Norfolk, Feb. 19, 1937. The family moved to Virginia Beach 10 years later. Brucie graduated from Saint Anne's School in Charlottesville where she played on the basketball team. She attended Holton Arms Junior College. She was an avid tennis player. She had a real love for horses and was an accomplished horsewoman. She also loved to read and was a member of her book club, "Bookies," in Charlottesville. Brucie also took great pride in her gardens, both in Virginia Beach and Charlottesville. Brucie especially loved to travel and truly enjoyed a number of trips she and Carl took to Europe. She was a former member of the Princess Anne Country Club and both the Virginia Beach and Albemarle Garden Clubs. Survivors include her husband of almost 50 years; her son, Tyler Wainwright Sewell and his wife Catherine Cranton Sewell; and her grandchildren, Charles Lockwood and Hayden Holloway Sewell of Charlottesville. She is also survived by her brother, Fielding Lewis Tyler and his wife Mary Salle' Tyler of Virginia Beach and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will conducted by the Rev. Miller Hunter in Saint Paul's Episcopal Church in Ivy Wednesday at 11 a.m. A graveside service will be held at Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery in Virginia Beach Thursday at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Christopher Thompson, Rector of Eastern Shore Chapel. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Laskin Road, Virginia Beach, is handling arrangements.
