Clara Burkett Obituary

Clara T. Burkett CONWAY - Clara Belle Tillery Burkett, age 97, died Feb. 1, 2009, in Hampton Woods Health and Rehabilitation Center in Jackson, N.C. She was born Sept. 21, 1911, to the late Samuel Tillery and Susan Ann Parker Tillery. She was the wife of the late Joseph Linwood Burkett. Mrs. Burkett was a homemaker, a loving mother and grandmother, a member of Ashley's Grove Baptist Church and a member of the T.E.L. Sunday school class. According to her family, she never met a stranger and was loved by all whom she met. A celebration of life service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Ashley Chapel of Garrett Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Hall-Rogerson Cemetery. The Rev. David Ross will officiate. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Merle Eileen Johnson and her husband William of Asheville, Susan Evans of Conway, Beverly Hedspeth and her husband Mack of Roanoke Rapids, Camelia Brown and her husband James Earl of Kernersville and Sandra Marshall and her husband Charles of Portsmouth; sons, Joseph Clayton Burkett and his wife Malyun of Colorado Springs, Colo., Linwood Dale Burkett and his wife Liz of Colerain and Jimmy Lane Burkett and his wife Rebecca of Roanoke Rapids; a sister, Bessie Burkett of Aulander; 23 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Garrett Funeral Home, 205 NC Hwy. 42 West, Ahoskie, NC 27910, and other times at the home of her son, Dale Burkett, 253 NC 42, Colerain. Garrett Funeral Home is serving the Burkett family.
