Walter Willhoite Obituary

Walter A. Willhoite NORFOLK - Walter A. "Wally" Willhoite, 84, passed away Jan. 31, 2009. Wally was born in Lexington, Ky., and resided in Norfolk most of his life. He retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years and from civil service after 10 years of service. He was a member of Moose Lodge No. 39 and the Fleet Reserve Association. Wally loved hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening and was a master craftsman, building many items for his family and friends. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his loving wife, Eleanor W. Willhoite; children, David and Carmen Willhoite, Donald and Renee Willhoite, Marie and Jim Zellner, Arthur John Whittle, Karen and Edward Giambrone and Carl Ringler; eight grandchildren, Amanda, Wendy, Lauren, Matthew, Merianne, Elisa, Nathan and Shaun; six great-grandchildren, Elias, Ellison, Riley, Mason, Kylee and Kaelynn; and a brother, Kermit Willhoite. A celebration of Wally's life will be held Sunday, Feb. 8, at 2 p.m. in Court Street Baptist Church, by Dr. L. Wilbur Kersey. A graveside service will be held June 16, 2009, at 1 p.m. in Arlington National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Wally's memory to the Court Street Baptist Church Endowment Fund, 447 Court St., Portsmouth, VA 23704. Friends may send tributes to www.mem.com.
