Reuben Guthrie Obituary

Reuben M. Guthrie EURE - Reuben Michael "Cowboy" Guthrie, 64, of the 300 block of Barfield Road, died Feb. 3, 2009, at Guardian Care of Ahoskie. Mr. Guthrie was born in Carteret County, North Carolina, a son of the late Reuben Guthrie and Dorothy Congleton Guthrie Black, and the stepson of the late Charles L. Black. He was retired as a master plumber with Lawson Mechanical and was a Baptist. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Nancy Sandefur Guthrie; his daughter, Dorothea Ann Journigan of Eure; a son, Joseph Verlyn Guthrie of Chesapeake; his grandchildren, Diana Marie Guthrie, Linda Ann Guthrie, Raechal Koraleigh Guthrie, Alaina Meagan Guthrie, Dustin Logan Guthrie, Laura Elizabeth Anderson, Trent Evan Whichard, and Taylor Chase Whichard; and his great-grandsons, Ryan Michael Chapman and Cody Thomas Long. He is also survived by a stepsister, Helen Dixon of Palm Coast, Fla.; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his mother, father and stepfather, Mickey was predeceased by a son, Reuben Michael Guthrie II; a grandson, Dustin L. Journigan and a brother, Kenneth Guthrie. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today in Faith Baptist Church on Jolliff Road, Chesapeake. The family asks that memorial donations be made to Alzheimer's Research Foundation, Southeastern Virginia Chapter, 6359 Center Drive, Suite 102, Norfolk, VA 23502. Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, is serving the Guthrie family. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and thanks to the nurses and staff at Guardian Care of Ahoskie, especially Phyllis, Lisa, Tinkerbelle, and all the CNAs, for their kindness and TLC of Mr. Guthrie during his stay there.
