John Magyorosi Obituary

John Magyorosi ELIZABETH CITY - John Magyorosi of The Carolina House of Elizabeth City passed away, at the age of 90, Feb. 10, 2009. Although born in Pueblo, Colo., he considered Cudahy, Wis., his native home. Upon graduation from Cudahy High School, he joined the U.S. Navy. As a young sailor, he was stationed at Pearl Harbor where he experienced Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor and the start of World War II. He spent the next 20 years in the service of the Navy. After moving to Virginia Beach, he retired as a chief petty officer. He later worked for the U.S. government as a base policeman at the Naval Air Station, Oceana and was later promoted to detective for base police, a position from which he retired. He was a member of the Survivors of Pearl Harbor Association and the Police Association of Virginia. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Stella C. Magyorosi and is survived by a daughter, Carole E. Kemp of Currituck, N.C.; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Kathy Magyorosi; grandson, Christopher M. Magyorosi, all of Virginia Beach; his brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Ann Magyorosi of Cudahy; and nephew and wife, Ronald and Mary Magyorosi of Cudahy. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, with burial to follow at Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service from 1 until 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, 4896 Kempsville Greens Parkway, Virginia Beach, VA 23462.
