Howard Meagher Obituary

Howard O. Meagher VIRGINIA BEACH - Howard O. Meagher, 90, passed away Feb. 18, 2009. Mr. Meagher was born in and raised near Frostburg, Md., and lived in Virginia Beach for the past 61 years. He was the son of the late William E. and Elizabeth A. Meagher and is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carrie Faye Meagher. He is also survived by his three children, Larry, Nancy and Linda; four grandchildren, Lori, Michael, Thomas and James Devin; and three great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Lexi and Colby. Howard ("Pappy") was a very special person and will be greatly missed. Mr. Meagher retired from the U.S. Navy in 1959 after 20 years of military service and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was most proud of his service to his country and carried the experience throughout his life. He spent the greater portion of World War II in the Pacific. He holds the World War II Victory Medal, American Defense Ribbon with Fleet Clasp and one Bronze Star, Asiatic-Pacific Medal with four Battle Stars, American - Theater Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal with one Star. A memorial service will be held in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., 2002 Laskin Road, Virginia Beach, Saturday at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution may be made to the American Lung Association or the AMVETS. Or a contribution may be made to the local SPCA, in recognition of Mr. Meagher's love for his best friend and pet, Buffy. Online condolences may be made at www.hdoliver.com.
