Otis Brinkley Obituary

Otis Monroe Brinkley Jr. CAMDEN - Otis Monroe Brinkley Jr., wonderful husband, dad and friend, left us for his new home in heaven Feb. 20, 2009. Known to his family and close friends as "Bud," he was born Sept. 30, 1945, and lived in Camden County his entire life. He was the son of the late Otis Monroe Brinkley Sr. and Alma Forbes Brinkley. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Gregory Brinkley of the home; his beloved daughter, Lisa Brinkley Price and husband Burt of Elizabeth City, N.C.; a sister, Nancy Brinkley Carter and husband Don of Elizabeth City; two brothers, William Earl Brinkley and wife Tricia of Shiloh, N.C., and Carl Simeon Brinkley and wife Kim of Shiloh; and many special nieces and nephews. Mr. Brinkley was a retired civil service employee. He was a dedicated member of Sawyers Creek Baptist Church where he was a former deacon. He was an avid gardener and always enjoyed sharing his bounty with others. Mr. Brinkley was known for his delicious homemade pickles he made every summer. He loved people, never met a stranger and kept a smile on his face up until the bitter end of his battle with cancer. His family and friends were his true joy and happiness. Our sincere thanks to Dr. Paul Conkling of Virginia Oncology and the oncology nurses and staff that rendered excellent care and compassion during the past several months. Also thanks to the great Hospice staff that brought comfort to him during his last days. A funeral will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. in Sawyers Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Stevens and the Rev. Phil Grasty officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence, 336 North 34 Highway, Camden, NC 27921. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Sawyers Creek Baptist Church New Building Fund, 214 Sawyers Creek Road, Camden, NC 27921. Twiford Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St., Elizabeth City, is assisting the Brinkley family. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.twifordfh.com.
