James Barnette Obituary

James C. Barnette VIRGINIA BEACH - James C. "Bud" Barnette, 80, passed away Feb. 23, 2009. Bud was born in Roanoke Rapids, N.C., to the late Samuel and Mary Clifton Barnette. He served in the Army Air Communications Service then worked for Tidewater Regional Transit for 44 years. He was an avid fisherman, nature lover, enjoyed NASCAR, and was always available to his family or friends if they needed help. Survivors include his childhood sweetheart, Marjorie "Margie" Kelly; a daughter, Susan Barnette Burns; three sons, Jerry Barnette, Mark Barnette and his wife Laurie and Kevin Barnette and his wife Samantha; four grandchildren, Kasey and Ashley Barnette, Jim and Lauren Burns; a sister, Libby Gossett and her husband Bob; a brother, Alan Barnette and his wife Vikki; two nieces, Robin and Shannon; a nephew, Chris; Margie's children and spouses, Michael Kelly (Gayle), Rosemary Holmes (Tom), Kevin Kelly (Shell), Laura Kelly, Eileen Carlson (Mark), Claire Kaeding (Todd); 13 grandchildren, Tim, Sean, Carrie, Tonya, Jennifer, Nathan, Bryan, Kyle, Cara, Rory, Megan, Melanie, Mollie; nine great-grandchildren; and his beloved Yorkie, Zack. He was preceded in death by a sister, Eileen Trueblood, and Margie's son, Patrick Kelly. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home where a funeral will be Friday at 10 a.m. by Pastor Doug Forehand. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Beach SPCA.

Bud was one of the best people I've ever known. He was so smart & knew something about EVERYTHING! He was my Friend thru my hard times, never giving up on me. I'm going to miss him terribly...Margie and family, my love and prayers go out to you.
