Scott Lowe Obituary

Scott M. Lowe VIRGINIA BEACH - Dr. Scott Miller Lowe, 66, passed away Feb. 22, 2009, at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. He was born in Charlottesville, Va., to the late Foster E. Lowe and Grace Monroe Lowe. At an early age, Dr. Lowe was baptized at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Keene, Va. Dr. Lowe was educated in the Charlottesville public school system. Scott, as he was fondly known, received his B.S. degree in 1964 from Virginia Union University, Richmond, Va., and his medical degree in 1970 from Meharry Medical College, Nashville, Tenn. He completed his internship at Harlem Hospital Center, New York and his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Albany Medical Center, Albany, N.Y. Upon completion of his residency in 1975, he established his private practice of OB/GYN in Norfolk. During his career, he served on the staff of Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Leigh Hospital and Bayside Hospital, Chesapeake Regional Medical Center and Norfolk Community Hospital. He continued a successful practice for 32 years until his retirement in 2007. Scott was a diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. His professional affiliations included: Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, National Medical Association, Norfolk Academy of Medicine, Old Dominion Medical Society, Virginia Medical Society, The Virginia OBGYN Society and Norfolk Medical Society. Scott served on the Board of Directors of The Tidewater Business League and served for many years as president of the Virginia Union Alumni Association, Tidewater Chapter. Additional memberships included Sigma Psi Phi Fraternity (Beta Lambda Boule'), Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., Norfolk Chapter of Guardsman Inc. and H.M. Club of America. Scott leaves his devoted wife of 36 years, Sharon Brewer Lowe; son, Scott M. Lowe Jr.; goddaughter, Tarrye L. Venable, all of Virginia Beach; mother-in-law, N. Ruth Brewer of Tuskegee, Ala.; brother, Dr. Gerald Foster (Vonita) of Spotsylvania, Va.; two brothers-in-law, Walter Brewer (Celeste), Bernard Brewer (Sylvia), both of Atlanta; two nephews, one niece and a host of dedicated relatives and friends to cherish his memory. A memorial service will be held at noon Friday in Bank Street Memorial Baptist Church, 7036 Chesapeake Blvd., Norfolk. Dr. Joseph Dancy Jr. will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a scholarship fund in memory of Dr. Scott Miller Lowe. Donations should be forwarded to Virginia Union University, Office of Institutional Advancement, 1500 N. Lombardy St., Richmond, VA 23220.
