Ronald Ellis Obituary

Ronald G. Ellis Sr. NORFOLK - Ronald Gray Ellis Sr., 56, lost his battle with cancer Feb. 25, 2009. Born in North Carolina, he was the son of the late Robert and Reba Ellis. Ronnie was also preceded in death by his brother, Randy Ellis. Ronnie was employed by Piedmont/US Airways from 1980 to the present. He excelled in competitive sports throughout his life. Although he played many sports, he was especially proud of his 25 years of competitive men's softball with such teams as the Woodlawn Patriots and the nationally ranked Piedmont Airlines travel team. His love of the game was an inspiration to all he came in contact with. Ronnie leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Bonnie Ellis; six children, Michelle Dupree, Jessica Stice and her husband Brad, Stephanie Higley, Gray Ellis, Jillian Ellis and Ashley Bennett; his granddaughter, Ava Stice; and his brother, Wray Ellis. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach, with the Rev. Ernest L. Trueblood officiating. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Tidewater Softball Hall of Fame, www.tvshof.org. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.altmeyer.com. The family wishes to thank all of those who supported the family with their love and compassion. Ronnie was very devoted to his wife and to his family. He was a loving Dad who challenged us to "Dare to be great!" You will forever live in our hearts.

I was fortunate to have played with Ronnie when he first started playing softball in Va. Beach. Brother Wray had brought him to play with us ( Kelly's, Tony's, My Brother's, etc.) and he was so fast we had to move him from shortstop to the outfield. . It all transferred to flag football when that first started. He could cover more ground than anyone I had ever seen. What a tremendous talent!

It is so hard to find words to say...
Ronnie would do anything for a friend. I will always remember that he painted my baby's room while I was in the hospital on bed rest.

Bonnie, ellis family and all those hearts touched by Ronnie; We were lucky to have him as our friend. We have all lost a little of our sunshine. When we came into his world we were crying and everyone is smiling, i know we are all crying but Ronnie is in heaven smiling on us. All my memories, make me smile through my tears. Keep those memories and Ronnie will stay with us.

Warm Summer Sun

Warm summer sun,
Shine kindly here,
Warm southern wind,
Blow softly here.
Green sod above,
Lie light, lie light.
Good night, dear heart,
Good night, good night.
