Claude Lane Obituary

Claude E. Lane TYNER - Claude Elson Lane, 76, of the 800 block of County Line Road, died Feb. 28, 2009, in his home following a long illness. Mr. Lane was born in Perquimans County and was the son of the late William Henry and Mary Claud Jones Lane. Retired from Newport News Shipbuilding, he was an Army veteran of the Korean War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Mattie Chesson, Arnie Copeland, Lizzie Boyce and Polly Chappell and brothers, William and James Lane. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Peggy Chappell Lane; a son, Rick Lane of Kill Devil Hills; special extended family members: nieces, Ginger and Allison Byrum; nephew, Ray Byrum and wife Michele; great-niece, Anne Marie Weeks; great-nephews, J.R. and Douglas Weeks; and sister-in-law, Sallie Mae Lane of Hertford. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Elizabeth City, by Ken Lane. Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, is handling arrangements. Friends may join the family at the residence.
