Martha Atkins Obituary

Martha A. Atkins NORFOLK - Martha A. Atkins, 88, of the 1100 block of Culpepper St., passed away Feb. 25, 2009. She was born Oct. 21, 1921, in Johnston County, North Carolina. She received a certificate in sewing from Booker T. Washington High School and Norfolk State College. She was a member of Philippi Church Disciples of Christ where she served as church mother and an usher. Martha was also a member of the Elizabeth Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. She was predeceased by her husband, Moses Atkins Sr., two sons, Lorenzo and Steve and a daughter, Marion. She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Brenda A. Holloway of Virginia Beach; one son, Moses Atkins Jr. of Portsmouth; one sister, Almeda Braxton of Teaneck, N.J; one brother, Benjamin Williams of Mays Landing, N.J.; and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral will be held at noon Saturday in Philippi Church of Christ Disciples, 211 Hardy Ave. Elder Cleveon Bryant will officiate. Interment will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Family and friends will assemble at 1109 Culpepper St. one hour prior to service for procession to the church. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday in Metropolitan Funeral Service, Berkley Ave. Chapel. Condolences may be offered at www.metropolitanfuneralservice.com.
