R. Croom Obituary

R. Shelton Croom NORFOLK - Rotheus Shelton Croom, 98, of the 800 block of West 42nd St., a retired printer, died March 2, 2009. He was born Dec. 4, 1910. Mr. Croom, a native of Elizabeth City, N.C., was the son of the late James C. Croom and Frances H. Croom, and a resident of Norfolk for 90 years. He was a member of Park Place United Methodist Church and the Amalgamated Printers' Association. During World War II, Mr. Croom served as a sergeant in the Army Air Forces. He was preceded in death by one brother, James W. Croom. He is survived by a sister-in-law, Juanita Croom of Midlothian, Texas; one nephew, Douglas Croom of Lufkin, Texas; two nieces, Gail Croom of Waxahatchie, Texas and Dianne Croom of Lufkin, Texas; one great-nephew, Michael Croom of Beaumont, Texas; one great-niece, Marsha Mitchell of Houston, Texas; and one special friend, Irene Mosenthine of Norfolk. A graveside funeral will be conducted Saturday at 10 a.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Memorial donations may be made to Park Place United Methodist Church, Norfolk.
