Ruth Greenaway Obituary

Ruth E. Greenaway VIRGINIA BEACH - Ruth Elvina Greenaway, 89, died at home March 4, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer. Ruth was a wonderful, kind and caring Christian woman totally devoted to her family. She will be greatly missed by her family and many dear friends. Ruth was born in Barnesboro, Pa., to John Augustine "Gus" Glass and Stella Elizabeth Glass. She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Greenaway; son, Bruce L. Greenaway; brothers, Harry E. Glass, John A. "Gus" Glass, Donald B. Glass and Richard C. Glass. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Charles Grosz and Judith and Timothy Scarry of Virginia Beach; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Greenaway of Arlington, Texas; her grandchildren, Douglas Grosz, Jennifer and husband Jason Piasecki, William Grosz, Allison Scarry and Svetlana Scarry of Virginia Beach, Erica and husband Scott Graves of Arlington; and three great- grandchildren, Tiffany, Lauren and Madeline. Ruth is also survived by her sisters, Thelma Birckbicler of Mabank, Texas, Mildred Leslie and Jean and husband Donald Oligher of Northern Cambria, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, with Dr. Bob Pipkin officiating. Burial will follow in Colonial Grove Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the building fund of St. John's Baptist Church, 2300 Holland Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23453. What an absolute pleasure it was to get to know Ruth. I know that she will be sadly missed by all. To her family, I would like to say that she was a women of great integrity and her Love for family is reflected in all of them. She had plenty of Love to share for all who knew her. May she rest in Peace with the Lord.
