David Smith Obituary

David Harold Smith NORFOLK - David Harold Smith, 59, a resident of Willoughby, passed away March 4, 2009, after a long battle against cancer. A native of Norfolk, he was the son of Harold Smith and the late Louise Smith. He graduated valedictorian of the Class of 1967 at Frederick Military Academy. After graduating from North Carolina State University in 1971 with an aerospace engineering degree, he began working at the Naval Air Rework Facility (NARF), doing rework design on F-14 fighter jets. He retired in 2004 from civil service. He is survived by his wife, Paula Perry Smith; his father, Harold Smith of Norfolk; his brother, Lawrence Smith and wife Janice of Floyd, Va.; his son, Mark Smith and wife Kathy of Powhatan, Va.; and his daughter, Toni Dale and husband JD of Guthrie, Okla. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Mark Smith Jr., Kylie Dale and Nathan Dale. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Norfolk SPCA. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
