John Eger

John Eger VIRGINIA BEACH - John "Jack" Eger went to celebrate his 82nd birthday with his heavenly Father March 4, 2009. Jack served his country faithfully for 30 years in the U.S. Navy through three wars, World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He worked for Jefferson-Pilot as an insurance agent for an additional 15 years before retiring. Jack was predeceased by his father, William Eger; his mother, June Roysdon Eger; his brother, Charles Eger; and sister, Nancy Lichty. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Doris Weigand Eger; as well as, sisters Emily Eger Wise of Florida and Mary Susan Eger Ewing of Ohio. He leaves behind seven children, John Eger Jr. and wife Joan, Chris Eger Kelly and husband Bill, Nancy Eger Simmers, William Eger and wife Karen, Allison Eger Taylor and husband Keith, Melissa Eger Haddock and husband Allen and Meredith Eger VanScoten and husband Randy; 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and will be sorely missed by his family. A viewing will be held at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at Little Creek Amphibious Base Chapel Tuesday at noon. Immediately following the Mass, there will be a graveside service in Colonial Grove Memorial Park on Princess Anne Road. Any non-military people who wish to attend Jack's service on base need to call the funeral home at (757) 463-0150 Monday by noon to place their name on an attendance list for the base.
