Harry DeAngelo Obituary

Harry P. DeAngelo Sr. MELBOURNE, Fla. - Retired U.S. Navy Chief Warrant Officer-4 Harry Paul DeAngelo Sr., 92, of Melbourne, passed away Friday, March 6, 2009. He lived in Florida since 1970 but resided most of his life in Virginia Beach. Born July 25, 1916, in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the son of Frank and Minerva DeAngelo. He served 23 years in the Navy as an officer. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II where he earned the Purple Heart for wounds received at the Battle of Okinawa. Harry received numerous awards including a Bronze Star with a combat "V" for Valor, 12 battle stars and two Presidential citations. He was most proud of his Good Conduct Medal he received at his retirement ceremony; Harry was one of the last of the World War II war heroes. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Anna Virginia DeAngelo; his daughter, Anne DeAngelo of Titusville, Fla.; his sons, Harry P. DeAngelo Jr., Steve C. DeAngelo (Sandra), Gary D. DeAngelo, all of Melbourne, Fla.; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today at Ascension Catholic Church, 2950 N. Harbor City Blvd., Melbourne. Entombment will follow at Florida Memorial Gardens. Florida Memorial Funeral Home, 5950 S. U.S. Hwy. 1, Rockledge, Fla., is in charge.
