Carrie Sargent Obituary

Carrie R. Sargent CORAPEAKE - Carrie Byrum Rountree Sargent, 92, of the Lucy Corr Village, Chesterfield, Va., and formerly of Corapeake, died March 9, 2009. Mrs. Sargent was born in Chowan County and was the daughter of the late Cecil and Missouri Boyce Byrum. The retired owner and operator of Rountree's Grocery, she was a member of Eureka Baptist Church, its Ida K. Brinkley Sunday school class, the Young at Hearts Senior Citizens Group, and had formerly been a member of the Gatesville Senior Citizens Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Blanchard G. Rountree and sisters, Janice Hobbs and Leona Price. Surviving are her daughter, Linda Rountree Akin and husband Gary of Petersburg, Va.; a sister, Marjorie B. Winslow of Hertford; two brothers, Cecil Byrum of Edenton and Weldon Byrum of Hertford; two grandchildren, Jason Akin and Jennifer Shaylor and husband Chris; two great-grandchildren, Lee Allen Shaylor and Jackson Grey Shaylor; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. in Eureka Baptist Church by the Rev. Mickey Willard and the Rev. Cameron Currin. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main St., Gatesville. Online condolences may be made to the family by visiting www.millerfhc.com.
