Heber A. Jones Jr. NORFOLK - Heber Alton Jones Jr., 79, passed away peacefully March 8, 2009 after battling illness. He was born in Pitt County, North Carolina, Nov. 10, 1929. After his career in the U.S. Navy, he worked for the Pure Oil Co. in Norfolk. In the early 70s, he went into business for himself and opened Terrace Union 76 and Jones's Diner on Tait Terrace Avenue. He retired and sold the service station and diner in the late 90s. Alton, also known as "Jonesy" or "HA", was an avid race car fan and an excellent pool player. He was predeceased by his birth parents; a sister, Jean of Norfolk; and his daughter's partner, Ronnie K. Hyatt Sr. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Minnie "Doll" Jones; stepmother, Alice Jones of Michigan; sister, Minnie Crimm of Northern Virginia; brother, David Jones of North Carolina; half-sister, Rebecca Kleindl of Michigan; daughter, Yvonne Agreste of Norfolk; son, Kenneth Jones of North Carolina; daughter-in-law, Mary Terry; son, Rodney Jones and daughter-in-law Mindy Jones of Norfolk; grandchildren, Sheryl and Nick Russo, Wendy Jones, Dusty Jones, Gina and Jarrod Highfield, Tony Agreste, Troy Jones, Tyler Jones, Todd Jones; and one great-grandson, Ashton Russo. The family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors and close family friends for all of their support during these hard times. Mr. Jones parted this life with a host of friends and family who loved him. A memorial service for friends and family will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Virginia Heights Baptist Church, 1251 Kempsville Road, Norfolk, with Dr. Jerry Vintinner officiating. Following the service, the family will receive guests at the Jones' residence. Arrangements are being made by Altmeyer Funeral Home 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach.
