Mason Carlson Obituary

Mason R. Carlson Sr. VIRGINIA BEACH - Mason Randolph Carlson Sr., 78, of the 3200 block of Page Ave., passed away June 2, 2009. He was born Sept. 4, 1930, to the late Emily Carlson Lorenz and Bert H. Carlson in Honolulu, Hawaii. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War (1947-51). He was a self-employed insurance agent for 40 years and retired in 2001. He was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Carlson Schwenkel and a brother, Eugene Theodore Carlson. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Doris O. Carlson; one daughter, Susan Carlson Lavelle; one son, Mason Randolph Carlson Jr.; one brother, Bertrum Henry Carlson; a grandson, Stephen Randolph Lavelle; son-in-law, William J. Lavelle; and a host of other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 20, 2009, in the chapel of Metropolitan Funeral Service, 7246 Granby St. The Rev. Dale W. Peterson of Yale University will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mary's Home for Disabled Children, 6171 Kempsville Circle, Norfolk, VA 23502 or the Norfolk SPCA, 916 Ballentine Blvd., Norfolk, VA 23504. The family wishes to thank Wanza Hunter for her many years of devotion and friendship and the wonderful care and comfort she provided for Mason. Uncle Mason was a hard working,family man. A humble and diligent saver, very kind and giving. I am so glad our family has had the chance to share many,many good times together whether it be at family bar-b-q,eating Thai, or Hawaiian chinese crack seed together or just talking on the phone...I will miss you. ALOHA!

Mason was always so gracious to me and my family. I will miss his dry humor and charm!
