Carl Whitaker Obituary

Carl Cecil Whitaker TAZEWELL, Tenn. - Carl Cecil Whitaker, 85, born July 7, 1923, passed away June 13, 2009, in the Claiborne County Nursing Home. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, as part of the OSS (Office of Strategic Services). He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis Whitaker and Nell Lake Whitaker. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Pauline "Polly" Whitaker of Tazewell; daughter, Suzette Whitaker Long of Greensboro, N.C.; son, Bruce Wayne Whitaker and wife Sue of Virginia Beach; brother, Ralph Whitaker and wife Christine of Virginia Beach; grandsons, James Joshua Whitaker of Virginia Beach, Jonathan Teige Cantey of West Lafayette, Ind., Jacob Curtis Whitaker and Joseph Carl Whitaker, both of Virginia Beach; great-grandchildren, Madison Anne Cantey of West Lafayette, Creighton Whitaker of Virginia Beach; nieces, Sandra Richards and Brenda Mallory, both of Virginia Beach; and a host of friends and relatives. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Shull Cemetery in Harrogate, Tenn. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to: AFTD (The Association for Frontotemporal Dementias), 1616 Walnut St., Suite 1100, Philadelphia, PA 19103. Email: www.ftd-picks.org.
