Doreen Hannah Daniels

Doreen H. Daniels VIRGINIA BEACH - Doreen Hannah Daniels, 85, died June 14, 2009, at her residence in Virginia Beach. She was born in Marchanley, England, and raised in Providence, R.I. Leaving the University of Rhode Island after her freshman year in 1943, she signed up as an enlisted member of the U.S. Navy WAVES. She was stationed at Dahlgren, Va., where she met her husband of 58 years, Bartow V. Daniels. At the end of her military career, she had made specialist chief. After the war, she completed her education at the University of Rhode Island. She and her husband settled in Fredericksburg, Va. Doreen started working at Dahlgren and after completing her master's degree from University of Oklahoma, she eventually became the head of Operational Support Branch (KGO). Her fields of work have included ballistic studies of projectiles, aircraft rockets and anti-submarine weapons, as well as POLARIS and POSEIDON. Mrs. Daniels was a lifetime member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Fredericksburg. She and her husband enjoyed many years of boating, golfing and traveling before settling in Virginia Beach in 1998. She was predeceased by her parents, Milton and Betty Hannah; her husband, Bartow V. Daniels; her son, Bartow G. Daniels; and her sister, Dyllis Walley. She is survived by her daughter, Donna D. Daniels from Virginia Beach; granddaughter, Traci Hill of Los Angeles; and brother, Milton Hannah of Providence. There will be a celebration of her life Friday, June 19, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Fredericksburg Hospitality House Hotel (previously the Sheraton Hotel), Suite No. 393.
