James Cornett Obituary

James A. Cornett SEDLEY - James Allen Cornett, 90, widower of Louise Johnson Cornett, died June 16, 2009, in Courtland Healthcare Center. He was born in Surry County, a son of the late Clarence and Alice Walker Cornett. Mr. Cornett was also predeceased by a sister, Lena Hargrave and two brothers, William and Leroy Cornett. A Navy veteran, he retired from the City of Suffolk as a heavy equipment operator, and attended the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Suffolk. Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Lewis (Robert) of Sedley, Alice Bartlett (Arnold) of Smithfield; three sons, James A. Cornett Jr. (Jane), Robert R. Cornett (Donna) and Jack R. Cornett (Kim), all of Windsor; 28 grandchildren; 36 great- grandchildren; two great-great- grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Lee Cornett and Merle Cornett, both of Smithfield; numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Pentecostal Holiness Church, Suffolk, with the Rev. Don Milner officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and suggest memorials be made to Pentecostal Holiness Church, 100 Kilby Shores Drive, Suffolk, VA 23434. www.wrightfuneralhome.org.
